June 27, 2010

Themed Weddings have been gaining popularity recently. The number of Star Wars themed weddings seem to appear on the news more often then now. The 1977 classic science fiction film has a huge world-wide following with legion of fans.

Groom Duncan Thomson appeared as the iconic hero, Han Solo whilst Sammi Gardiner appeared as Princess Leia. Princess Leia’s, ahem, Sammi’s ring was appropriately engraved: “May the 4th be with you”!

The couple sort inspiration on their date back in 2005 after viewing the last prequel film, Revenge Of The Sith.

“You really believed you were watching Han and Leia getting married.” Said friend, Matt Archer who came as protocol droid, C3PO.

Show Me The Money

May 6, 2010

Is it acceptable for the bride and groom to ask for hard earned cash from their guests? In this day in age of recessions, bail-outs and rescues, you’d  probably be excused for thinking that it’ll be ok for the married couple to ask for money rather then the usual toaster from you.

This is the interesting question posed by the Wedding Magazine yesterday. According to there research, it said 45% of married couples asked their guests to give money. That’s a pretty big pot!

The British are particularly polite to ask for cash but other international peoples are less embarrassed. The chinese are well accustomed to handing out money at weddings with red lucky packets given to parents of the wedded couple.  As cultural traditions go in Cyprus, dollars are stuck on the bride and groom dresses. Whilst in  the Philippines and places like Cuba, money can be stuck into shoes as the married couple dance the night away.

With weddings getting more and more expense, it could be more of a common occurrence at weddings that money will be handed out in these difficult times.

Fake Bridal Show Rips Off Exhibitors

March 11, 2010

Unfortunate exhibitors were cruelly ripped off when it was exposed that a major bridal show in Boston, USA was in fact completely fake. Exhibitors were told on a Facebook page about the ‘biggest and most extragant’ of shows. More then 6000 vendors signed up and paid registration fees up front on Paypal. Suspicions were aroused when vendors began calling up the venue asking them when they can set up displays and stands. The conference centre could only say that no show had ever been planned.

One of the victims was a wedding photographer, Aram Orchanian, said he’d lost nearly $3000 in producing promotional items for the show. Other victims also spent thousands doing the same.

The scammers spent time making themselves appear as knowledge-able about the industry as possible. They set up a website and Facebook group page which all subsequently were taken down afterward.

A Guide to Organising Your Perfect Wedding Day

February 23, 2010

Your boyfriend is now your fiancé and everything is a in swirl. It’s time to start organising for the big day. Yep, it’s true that recession is making everyone think twice about weddings but you can easily cut out any unnecessary expenditure to still walk away a happy Bride and Groom. Here are a few tips to help you on the way.

The wedding dress is one of the star attractions of any big day. A white dress always delivers the goods but of course don’t be afraid to add colour to the proceedings. Colours can always be co-ordinated with what flowers you choose. The season in which you have your wedding ceremony will also have an influence on your choice of colours. Let’s face it, there’s no point using dour colours for your wedding dress in the height of summer! Use yellows in the summer whilst in Autumn aim for reds, golds, oranges and browns. The key is to use sparingly as at the end of the day it is the couple that is supposed to stand out. Dresses should be tried out everytime to make sure it fits and suits your figure. Dresses can be tried out at stores only by appointment – try to avoid weekend try-outs as they tend to be the busiest. Bring along a friend or relative for a honest opinion. If you want to do a little research beforehand then grab a handful of wedding magazines or browse the web for inspiration!

Finally, make sure your bridesmaids are equally stunning and the men turn out in waist coats. Of course, all must be co-ordinated with the marrying couple or else wedding photos will end up looking a little contrasty!

Make sure all tasks are broken up and properly assigned to friends, mothers and grooms. Hire a wedding planner if things get a little out of hand. They’ll get everything just right for you and keep you all in loop on everything. However, wedding planners do come at a price. The best tip is try to do things yourself but split the tasks into bite sized chunks. Write down notes and keep a note book throughout. This is especially helpful if you need to keep track of a budget.

Booking a wedding venue and hotels for guests to stay has to be done well in advance. It’s probably one of the first things you need to do before the dress. There are some fantastic locations out in Gloucestershire or in London. But for those who have a taste for the exotic, you can always book abroad. But beware of the extra travel luggage and also the dreaded cancelled flights!

To make sure your magical day is captured on film and not just in memories, you need to hire a professional wedding photographer. It is essential that the person is trusted and please by all means arrange to meet up with your photographer beforehand to ensure that you can work with this person. It’s no use the photographer turning up and this is the first time you met him or her. You make sure that you and the photographer work in tandem to make sure the best moments are properly documented. By all means invite the photographer to the venue and go over the key points of the ceremony. Your wedding photographer can then determine the best position he or she can stand in on the day. There are plenty of professional people in London or the UK to help you so it’s a case of who you ‘click’ with that counts.

We all know how this one turned out. It was all going so well for the she-of-perfect-hair-styles actress who’d managed to bag one of the world’s most handsome film lead actors. They married in a sunset ceremony in Malibu with 200 guests in the summer of 2000. Despite splashing out £1 million on the wedding and Anniston vowing to always make Brad’s favourite banana milkshake, they announced their split in 2005 after five years of marriage. All this because one film studio decided to pair off two of the most easy-on-the-eye actors together in one film!

The star studded event in Marble Collegiate Church in New York included a 60-piece orchestra and entertainers performing there included Paula Abdul, Ed Ames and Tony Bennett. The wedding list was from top New York retailers including Tiffany, the jewellers, and included 12 silver platters to the tune of $24,350. Liza and David divorced after just over a year.
